Shipping Policy
Production times, how and from where we ship, customs duties and taxes, and what to do if a delivery goes wrong.
Your statutory rights are protected.
Nothing in this Policy limits or excludes any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or equivalent consumer protection legislation applicable in your jurisdiction (including the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU as transposed in your country of residence). Your statutory rights prevail over anything inconsistent in this Policy.
At The Fabric Shop, we know how important it is to know when your fabric will arrive and how it will get to you. This Policy explains our production times, how and from where we ship, international customs charges, and what to do if something goes wrong. This Policy forms part of our Terms of Service and should be read together with our Returns, Refunds & Claims Policy (which governs fault claims, cancellations, and 14-day returns on packaged goods) and our Privacy Policy (which describes the personal information transferred to our Fulfilment Provider).
Please read Section 4 (Shipping Origin) and Section 5 (Customs, Duties and Taxes) so you understand how we ship and how duties and taxes are handled before you order.
THE TWO COMPONENTS OF YOUR DELIVERY TIME
Your total delivery time is the sum of two components:
- Production Time: how long we take to cut, print, finish, and dispatch your order.
- Transit Time: how long the chosen carrier takes to deliver your order to you, including any customs processing in your country.
PRODUCTION AND DISPATCH TIMES
All times below are estimates from the date of your Order Confirmation Email and are not guaranteed. Delays may occur during high-volume periods (such as sale events or end-of-year holidays), or for operational reasons, and we will communicate any material delays to you by email.
| Order Type | Estimated Dispatch Window | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| The Yard only (stocked items) | 3 to 5 business days | Cutting, packing, and dispatch. |
| PrintLab (Customer Content or Library Content) | 7 to 10 business days | Printing, steaming, washing, finishing, and dispatch. |
| Combined order (The Yard + PrintLab) | 7 to 10 business days | Shipped together once PrintLab is ready (see Section 7). |
SHIPPING COSTS AND OPTIONS
Shipping costs and available service levels are calculated based on the weight and dimensions of your order, your delivery address, and the chosen service. All available shipping options and the corresponding cost are displayed at checkout before you confirm payment. We do not offer free shipping as a default.
Once dispatched, you will receive a Shipping Confirmation Email containing a tracking number and a link to track your parcel. Tracking is provided for most orders; where tracking is not available for a particular lane or service, this will be noted at checkout.
SHIPPING ORIGIN
Orders ship from our overseas fulfilment operation in China. Every order, including orders delivered to Australian addresses, is a cross-border shipment and may pass through customs processing in the destination country. Our fulfilment arrangements are also described in Section 2 of our Terms of Service and Section 2.2 of our Privacy Policy.
Carriers. We use commercial international carriers and freight consolidators that support delivered duty paid (DDP) shipping, so that the duties and import taxes you pay at checkout are settled before your order reaches you. We do not ship through national postal networks. The specific carrier used for your order depends on the destination, the weight and dimensions of the parcel, and the service level you select at checkout. A tracking number will be provided for most orders.
Transit time estimates. Because transit times vary by destination, season, and customs load, we display indicative transit time ranges at checkout for each available service. Actual transit times may vary.
CUSTOMS DUTIES, IMPORT TAXES, AND HANDLING FEES
We calculate and display the customs duties, import taxes, and consumption taxes (such as GST or VAT) that apply to your delivery destination, and we show them at checkout. The total shown at checkout is the total payable for your order.
Duties and import taxes. For all destinations, we calculate, collect, and arrange payment of applicable customs duties and import taxes at checkout. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay, and no separate invoice for those duties or import taxes will be issued to you on delivery.
GST and VAT. Where we are registered or otherwise required to collect it (including for orders delivered to Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the European Union), we charge and collect goods and services tax (GST) or value-added tax (VAT) at checkout at the applicable rate and remit it to the relevant authority. You should not be charged that tax again on import.
Local sales taxes. For some destinations, including the United States, Canada, and Japan, a local sales tax (such as United States state or local sales tax, Canadian federal and provincial taxes, or Japanese consumption tax) may be assessed separately on or after delivery. Such local taxes are not collected by us at checkout and, where they apply, are payable by you.
Amounts shown at checkout. The duties and taxes shown at checkout are calculated from the destination, declared value, and product classification of your order at the time you place it, and are the amounts collected in respect of duties and import taxes for your order. If you are unsure whether a local sales tax applies in your country, we recommend checking with your national or local tax authority before ordering.
Failure to pay destination charges or refusal to take delivery.
Because duties and import taxes are settled at checkout, there is usually nothing further to pay on delivery. If, however, you refuse to take delivery, or a charge assessed on arrival (such as a local sales tax) is not paid, the parcel may be held by customs, returned to us, destroyed, or abandoned by the carrier. In any of those cases:
- duties, import taxes, and handling fees already paid are not refundable by The Fabric Shop;
- return shipping costs, destruction fees, and abandonment costs (if any) are your responsibility;
- where a parcel is successfully returned to us, we will refund the price of the goods less any outbound shipping, return shipping, duty, tax, handling, and reasonable restocking charges incurred. If your refusal of delivery constitutes a 14-day change-of-mind return of eligible Packaged / Whole-Unit Goods (available in every market: see Sections 11.2 and 11.3 of our Terms of Service), those Sections apply to your refund instead of this clause.
ORDER TRACKING
Once dispatched, you will receive a Shipping Confirmation Email with your tracking number and link. If you do not receive this email within the dispatch window described in Section 2:
- check your Junk or Spam folder;
- confirm that the email address on your account is correct; and
- contact us at hello@thefabricshop.com with your Order Number if you still cannot locate it.
Please allow up to 48 hours after dispatch for tracking information to update. Events in the carrier network (handover, customs clearance, out for delivery) may scan at different times across the international lane.
COMBINED ORDERS (THE YARD + PRINTLAB)
Where you place a combined order containing both The Yard items and PrintLab items, the entire order will be held and shipped together once the PrintLab items are ready. The estimated dispatch window for the whole order is the PrintLab window (7 to 10 business days).
If you need The Yard items sooner, please place two separate orders.
AUTHORITY TO LEAVE (ATL)
By default, parcels may require a signature on delivery. At checkout, you can select “Authority to Leave”, which instructs the carrier to leave the parcel at your nominated address without a signature.
Please note: if you select Authority to Leave, and the carrier records successful delivery to your nominated address, The Fabric Shop is not responsible for parcels that are subsequently lost, stolen, or damaged.
Nothing in this Section limits any rights you have under applicable consumer protection law (see the statement at the top of this Policy).
DELAYS, LOST PARCELS, AND DAMAGE
9.1 Delayed Parcels
If your parcel is significantly delayed (more than 5 business days past the upper end of the indicative transit time displayed at checkout) and tracking has not updated, please contact us at hello@thefabricshop.com with your Order Number. We will raise an enquiry with the carrier on your behalf.
9.2 Customs Delays
Customs delays are outside our control and do not constitute a delay on our part for the purpose of this Policy. We will assist by providing any documentation the carrier requires to release the parcel.
9.3 Lost Parcels
Where the carrier’s investigation confirms that a parcel is lost in transit, we will, at our discretion, resend the order or issue a refund of the amount you paid for the order.
9.4 Damage on Arrival
If your parcel arrives visibly damaged, take photos immediately (before opening the parcel if possible) and contact us at claims@thefabricshop.com with your Order Number, photos, and a description of the damage. Do not discard the damaged packaging until we confirm next steps. Claims for damage on arrival must be submitted within 14 days of confirmed delivery, consistent with Section 5.3 of our Returns, Refunds & Claims Policy and Section 11.5 of our Terms of Service. The 14-day window does not limit your statutory rights, including in respect of latent defects that could not reasonably have been detected on inspection: see Section 5.3 of our Returns, Refunds & Claims Policy.
INCORRECT ADDRESS AND RETURNED PARCELS
It is your responsibility to provide an accurate, complete, and current delivery address at checkout. We are not responsible for parcels that cannot be delivered because of an incorrect or incomplete address you provided.
If a parcel is returned to us because of an incorrect address or non-collection, we will contact you. You may choose to:
- re-ship the parcel to a corrected address, at your cost; or
- receive a refund of the price of the goods, less outbound shipping, return shipping, and any duty, tax, or handling charges incurred.
